| Piran from the old town walls |
Piran, located on the Adriatic, is the most Italianate of all the coastal towns in Slovenia. Looking down on it from the old town walls, it reminded me a lot of Dubrovnik, Croatia with it's red tiled roofs. |
| | We arrived late on a Monday night after driving from Ljubljana and visits to Postojna caves, Predjama Castle and Skocjan caves. It was rainy and windy so we settled for just eating dinner after a short walk through town.
The next morning it was still a bit overcast but the rain had stopped so we took a walk along the coastline and up to the top of the old walls. Piran is very compact, the whole walk took us less than 2 hours and then we were on our way to Lake Bled. |
| Tartini Square-finally some sunshine! |
| | Had we to plan the trip over again, another option might have been to base ourselves out of Portoroz where 3 night minimum on accomodations seemed to be common, plan a day trip to Venice from there and another day trip to Skocjan and Postojna Caves plus a day to explore the area. It would have minimized the number of hotels and the packing and repacking and saved us the high cost of the Venice hotel room. We could have flown into Trieste instead of Venice, as "luck" would have it, we ended up in Trieste anyways when our Ryan Air flight was diverted. |

It is an interesting town. | SWFC_Fan Sun Mar 16, 2008 00:58 UTC Piran is such a beautiful little town, and the views from the city walls and the top of the Church of St George are breathtaking! If only there was a Pizza Hut with cevapcici-topped pizzas...;-) |
