If you are in the area visiting Postojna Caves, it's worth a stop to see Predjama Castle, only 9 km away. I wouldn't say the interior is an absolute must see if you're on a tight budget, either time or monetary, but even if you don't go inside, it is still worth taking a drive by as it's one of the most interesting exteriors of a castle I've seen. It's built into a cave which gave it some real advantages as it's function as a fortress.
We had a full day when we visited Predjama, driving from Ljubljana, going to Postojna Cave, Predjama Castle, Skocjan Caves and finally to Piran where we stayed. Had we had a more leisurely day, we might have done the Cave under the Castle tour or the less touristed Pivka and Black Caves although it looks like advance reservations are required.

Love the way the Castle has been built into the mountainside. Nice photo's.
Same as you, I fell in love of Predjama castle! This is an outstanding place!
Great story about Erasmus. What a way to go!
First caves, now castles - sounds like my sort of country!
Interesting story of Erasmus and Predjama Castle--a historic tale with a gruesome end. The site must have been beautiful...the wax figures maybe too realistic. Thanks, Kristi for a look at this unique place.
Love the location!!! Would definately make the time and effort to see the interior.. thanks Kristi!
What a great place to put the Predjama Castle - right in front of a cave entrance. Cool or what! Poor Erasmus - getting caught with his pants down.
Loved the local custom tip...still smirking. This is, indeed, a fantastic location for a castle. As always, Kristi, very interesting information.
What a stunning setting for a castle! Not sure about the wax man hanging in the torture chamber though. And I see I'm first to comment, which is always satisfying ;)
