Belize by cruise ship

Since our 1st visit, the cruise ships have invaded, I almost felt a little guilty arriving here by that method as I suspect that they are doing some damage to the reef and are turning what used to be a really laid back destination into one crawling with cruise ship passengers. On the flip side though, I'm sure that the local economy benefits from the influx.

By far, the most popular cruise excursion is cave tubing and since we hadn't done that the 1st time, we settled on it for this stop. It wouldn't be my 1st choice of excursion and I'm guessing that people who don't research cave tubing don't realize that it's not a terribly active excursion. But the company we picked, cavetubing.bz, provided a very nice day out and we had a nice group of people on our excursion so I can't complain.

Belize on land

It's been ages since we've been to Belize, the last time we visited in 2000 we spent a week on Ambergris Caye at a small beach front hotel, booked through Capricorn Leisure. We spent some time snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley, visited Caye Caulker, took a boat ride to see the Mayan ruins at Lamanai and took a very expensive daytrip by plane to see the Mayan ruins in Tikal, Guatemala.

This looks like a great destination, though I imagine that 16,000 cruise passengers at the same time might put a bit of a strain on their infrastructure.

Nice page! It appears things have changed somewhat since we also visited by ship -- we went out to a World Wildlife Sanctuary, had lunch and did a river boat trip. I thought it was great and we saw so much wildlife both on land and on the river. We had a terrific guide.Wouldn't mind going back!

Sounds nice to float on a tube down the river, trough some caves, but without the crowd from the cruise ships. Great that your guide stopped along the path to show you interesting plants. I haven't been to Belieze since 1991, and I guess it has changed a lot.

You must have had a great time cave tubing here. It sounds great but I'm not sure I'm as adventurous as you!

Had ONE interview so far. Today. Chicos. (Retail / Clothes / Part time). Would love to work there... Great bennies / discount... But don't know how it will go down. For "real Jobs" ... it's going VERY slow, dear... ; (
