| Bucharest from the Lido Hotel |
I had been wanting to visit Romania for quite a few years, ever since I saw a Rick Steves show on the charms of Romania. The hubby didn't want to drive and I didn't want to try and coordinate train and bus schedules so we signed up for a privately guided tour through General Tours which contracts locally through Atlantic Tours.
Most of the guidebooks and VT pages from local residents suggested that Bucharest was not the most attractive of European capitals and that it was a little hard for a visitor to get to know it's charms which I found to be a fair assessment. But if you get outside of the core of the city, away from the traffic and concrete apartment buildings, I think you will find that Bucharest has some delightful spots to discover and is worth a stop on your visit to Romania. |
