"Just who paid the author of Frommer's to list Maastricht as a three star (must see) destination?" was the thought running through my head as we walked through Maastricht, the entire city seemed to be under some kind of construction-streets, buildings, churches, squares, everywhere I looked there were construction cranes, fences and scaffolding!

A couple hour stop on our way to Bastogne - Maastricht

Maastricht's rave reviews led us here, I figured we would be remiss if we skipped it since we'd be so close as we made our way from Antwerp to Bastogne. I'm sure if we return to the Netherlands that we will give Maastricht another shot, I'm hoping that the construction and litter were temporary problems.

    I was there in September 2009 not long after you and there was little sign of contruction then. It is so disappointing when that happens, I can certainly understand your disappointment. It was a charming city, give it another go sometime.
