"Tabor, a pleasant afternoon stop" Tabor by Dabs
Tabor Travel Guide: 13 reviews and 49 photos
As we were driving from Ceske Budejovice back to Prague, we scanned the map to see what interesting places lie between the two cities and settled on Tabor as our 1st stop. There's a delightful main square and if you stop by the tourism office and pick up a map, there's a walking tour that hits the highlights of the town, estimated at 1 1/2 hours if you do the historic center, 3 hours if you also include a walk through the natural areas-the botanic garden, Jordan Lake, Luznice River and the waterfalls.
The city of Tabor is home to around 36,000 residents, the area that you want to see is just a small part of it, the historic center which is surrounded by woodland on three sides and a lake on the fourth side.
The town of Tabor was founded in 1420 by the Hussites, religious exiles from Prague, the name Tabor comes from the mountain where the transfiguration of Christ took place. If you want to learn more about the history of the town and the Hussites, there is a Hussite Museum on Zizka Square.

You found another nice, interesting town. Love your opening photo, and also the Sgraffito burgher house and different architecture found here.
Great opening shot! Tabor looks a lovely place to visit, and not just for the pizzas (though they do look and sounds excellent)
Kristi, very interesting little page with splendid photos. Tabor looks indeed well worth visiting.
Tabor is indeed a great place to go, although most tourists will just pass by it without noticing its beauty !
Hahaha, you've noticed that I'm trying to carve out a niche in Chinese restaurant and pub tips then? ;-) This place looks lovely, and I note that you managed to find pizza...again! ;-)
One of the joys of meandering around Europe is finding interesting little places like Tabor. The view from atop the Lookout Tower was amazing - what a beautiful little town!
You wasted no time in getting your pages together!full of lovely photos and info as usual - glad to see you made it to Czech and got around by car- as good as when we were there driving about?!
Oh those pizzas do look good! Rita and I try to eat Chinese wherever we go. Did you see a Chinese restaurant in the Czech Republic?
Hahaha... I didn't even have to read the review to know which pizza David ordered because that's the same one I would have gotten. YUM!! Funny how more people are interested in the pizzas than the great view from the tower, huh? :)
These pizzas look good. The WORST pizzas I ever had were in Budapest in 1992. They used ketchup instead of tomato sauce.
