Tourist Trap: Passport stamps
  • Tip Rating:
  • I was a little irritated that when I entered Swizterland that immigration control not only did not stamp my passport but they didn't even look at it after I had spent an extra $60 to get a new expedited passport since I didn't have much time left on my passport.

When I crossed the border into France from Switzerland, there was no one even there!

And in Liechtenstein, I didn't even see a sign that said we were going into another country...

So here's my brand spanking new blue passport with nothing in it, not a stamp, not a speck of food, heck, it hadn't even been opened except in the US. So I saw a sign that said get your Liechtenstein passport stamps here and I thought hmmmm...And then I saw the 2 CHF charge and I thought, well, there's always the US immigration control, they ALWAYS stamp my passport!

I guess Liechtenstein has to make money from something!

At Least Do This: I'd say just pass on this, I mean how many countries actually stamp passports anymore? I've been to four with my new passport and only one stamp and that's from the US :-(

How many people can say they visited Liechtenstein--you can, Kristi!

I need to put aside a weekend, fly to Zurich and then spend a couple of hours crossing this little country off my list! :-) You'll be fine in Norway without having to resort to fast food places...prices are a bit cheaper than Iceland! :-)

Thanks for mentioning the fact that Liechtenstein is a tax haven. One of the big scandals here in Germany in recent weeks has to do with very prominent (and supposedly clean-nosed) rich Germans using Liechtensteinian "foundations" for tax evasion.

Nice page! I also lament the fact that many countries no longer stamp passports -- it not only documents that you entered that country but it's kind of a souvenir in a way! At least US immigration is vigilant of who enters/leaves the country!
