Da Fabio: Italian food on the boardwalk
  • Tip Rating:

  • Restaurant Name: Da Fabio

I ended up eating here twice, Wednesday dinner with Hansi (waalewiener), Lori (loripori) and Kat (keida84) and Thursday lunch with Chris (balfor) and his friend Michelle, joined later by Kay (haldane) and her lovely daughter Keziah.

A few things annoyed me about this place, the 1.5E service charge per person (just another way to rip tourists off!), the price of the drinks and the manager, who looked at awful lot like Andy Garcia, was pretty rude on both visits as were the servers.

Favorite Dish: The food was better than the service (and the company was, of course, superb!) but I imagine there are better places to get Italian food if you get off the touristy boardwalk. Wednesday night I wasn't very hungry so I ordered a fried calamari appetizer which was pretty good but overpriced. Thursday I ordered a seafood pizza which was good and more than I could finish.

    Restaurante Hong Kong: Chinese food

  • Restaurant Name: Restaurante Hong Kong

Thursday night a rather large group of VTers gathered for an unofficial VT meeting at a Chinese restaurant near the square. They graciously accomodated our large party immediately and kindly allowed us to all pay for our orders separately, something I've never ever seen a restaurant do for a party that size.

Favorite Dish: I ordered the menu of the day, started off with a spring roll, followed by sweet and sour pork, finished with some ice cream. The food wasn't extraordinary but it was fine and very reasonably priced, I think my meal including a drink was less than 10E.

    Churreria Ramon: Churros y Chocolate
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Plaza de los Naranjos

I'm not sure of just which cafe we stopped at in the Plaza de los Naranjos, indeed we didn't even realize that there were multiple cafes serving the large area in the square until the VT walking tour happened by and we realized that we were at red tableclothed tables and that everyone else was at green tableclothed tables, fraternization with patrons from the other establishments is strictly prohibited! LOL Well except for Hansi....

Favorite Dish: I had my first taste of what would be my breakfast for the rest of the trip, churros y chocolate, how come no one told me about this before? The churros here weren't as good as the ones in Granada but they were good enough that I wanted to eat them again and again and again...

Churros are a fried dough that you sprinkle with sugar and then dip into a thick hot chocolate-YUM!

Kat had pineapple flavored ice cream served in a carved out pineapple, it was light and not overly sweet.

    Casa Eladio: Friday night dinner
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: Casa Eladio

Kudos to Carmen and Stace for finding this charming restaurant in the old town on such short notice, even though there were so many of us, the food was excellent and the service was good!

Favorite Dish: The menu was fixed since we were such a large group, I was starving (I'm an American, we don't eat dinner at 9 pm LOL) so when the appetizers started coming out I was overjoyed, plates of Iberian sausage and bread and one of my favorite Spanish tapas, croquettes with ali oli sauce, I ate so much of the appetizers that I'm afraid I was stuffed by the time the dinner came out!

But I did make an effort to eat my entree, a pork sirloin in stroganoff sauce which was delicious!

    DA PINO: Saturday night dinner
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: DA PINO

Carmen and Stace's pick for Saturday night was also excellent, they had a little trouble delivering the right food to the right tables, but overall service was good and the food was excellent!

Favorite Dish: I was supposed to have a three pasta appetizer but they put a plate of tomatoes topped with fresh mozzarella down in front of me and I had forgotten what the menu was so I started to eat it (the portion size was huge, enough for 2-3 people!). Shortly after, they started delivering the pasta and my good buddy Hansi was nice enough to let me taste his (actually, I think I ate ALL of his pesto pasta!). My entree was a scallopini with mushroom sauce which I couldn't finish and then they bring out these huge slices of divine tiramisu and well, have you ever known me to pass up dessert?
