Greenwich (pronounced GREN itch), a borough of London located on the Thames River about 5 miles outside central London, is best known for being the home of Greenwich Mean Time by which all of the world's clocks are set. Greenwich's main draw is it's long maritime history and almost everyone who visits makes the climb up the hill in Greenwich Park to the Royal Observatory to stand on the Prime Meridian, the imaginary line which marks 0 longitude.

July 2008 saw my 3rd trip out to Greenwich, after a drizzly morning turned sunny we changed plans and hopped on the Thames Clipper using our 2 for 1 discount that we got by having travelcards and vouchers. Although traveling by boat is the nicest way, if you are looking for a cheaper way to get there, Greenwich is still in zone 2 of the transport system so you can get there by DLR train or by bus. Our trip here only lasted a few hours, you could easily spend the whole day here if you are interested in Maritime History.

I didn't realize that several of the most well known kings and queens of England were born in Greenwich, Elizabeth I, her sister, Mary I and father, Henry VIII were born at the Tudor Palace of Greenwich, which was badly damaged by Cromwell's troops in the Civil War and torn down after the Restoration. The site is now occupied by the Old Royal Naval College.
