"Cassis, on the sea" Cassis by Dabs

Cassis wasn't on my original list of places to visit but I remembered seeing some glowing reviews and must see declarations so when we found ourselves with an extra 1/2 day in Aix, we decided to head here for the afternoon. Quaint fishing village is a term I've seen used to describe Cassis, quaint being an extremely overused word used to describe places and in my opinion inaccurate as well. That's not to mean that I didn't like it, in fact I did quite enjoy our afternoon there. But I can imagine on a hot July or August day when the tourism in this part of the country is on overdrive that this place is crawling with tourists. Fortunately we were there before the onslaught of Parisians taking their August holidays and the rest of the world coming in to tiptoe through the lavendar fields and found it busy, yet manageable.

The thing to do here, if you are not just looking to go to the beach, is to take a boat ride to see the calanques
