Orla Copacabana Hotel: On the beach at Copacabana Compare Rates

  • We booked our hotel in a package through Go Today, this was the mid level hotel option for Rio. Situated on Av. Atlantica, the main road that travels along the Copacabana beach, it was in a good location, within walking distance of both Ipanema beach and Copacabana beach. There was also quite a few restaurants, mainly tourist oriented, along Av. Atlantica and at least one disco, Help, which the guidebooks say is a mixture of young male tourists and prostitutes (needless to say, we didn't go in). We walked along Av. Atlantica in the evening with no problems, it might get a little rougher later at night after everyone has a few drinks in them and the guidebooks suggest walking on the hotel side instead of the beach side.

Unique Qualities: We had a standard room, it was nothing special but it was clean and comfortable. Room amenities included air conditioning, a small refrigerator, TV. An in room safe is available at an additional daily cost. Some rooms may have views of the ocean but ours was not one of them as you can see from the attached photo.

The bathroom was nice, plenty of hot water, toileteries were limited so bring your own. I didn't see a hair dryer but I didn't really need one.

Breakfast is included in the rate and it was a pretty good breakfast buffet with standard fare such as eggs, bacon, fruit, toast, pastries, juice and a couple of unusual items like bananas in caramel and french toast that didn't need syrup.

The hotel has a rooftop pool but when we went to look at it we both burst out laughing. Maybe frogs could do laps in here but not humans! But there's a splendid view from the rooftop patio of the Copacabana beach and Sugarloaf.

Your choice to hire a guide was a wise decision, Kristi. Your restaurant encounters sounded delicious--the sports venue very exciting and the tips on warnings really helpful!! I enjoyed touring your page on Rio de Janeiro... THANKS!

Very helpful tips on Rio. We've been undecided about whether to visit here when we're in south America as you hear both good and bad things about the city. Good film tips too - I've seen some of the ones you mention, must look out for the others.

Very interesting and helpful tips. I didn't know about the Visa requirements. We hope to get down that way someday. I have a sister who spent four years in Brazil.
