Restaurant Name: Yuan
I eat out quite a bit, including many Asian and vegetarian restaurants. However, I've never experienced the unique combination as can be found a Yuan! The owners are a Tawainese family dedicated to the health and taste benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. The food is inventive and tasty, and odd combinations of ingredients that I can't even identify. Some of the offerings I did recognize were soy based "meats and fish", nuts, seaweed, and maybe even coral?
Yuan is not the fanciest restaurant, but it's charming and big enogh to accomodate different sizes of groups. It's popular with students for an inexpensive tasty supper. It's also in a very convenient location, close to the central neighbourhoods of the Plateau and the Latin Quarter. It is right where the comedy festival Just for Laughs is held.
What's more, there's a little grocery store in the back where you can buy many of the restaurant's ingredients. Imported vegetarian treats and noodles, soy products and more are for sale.
Favorite Dish: You have a choice of combination meals, all of which I suggest. You get small salad/hor d'oeuvres, soup and the main plate. Sample dishes are vegetarian sushi, "fish" and "steak".
