···ALICANTE... MY HOMETOWN···

by Sergioalc - last update: Sep 5, 2002

Alicante is my city and a very nice place to live. In fact it's neither a big town nor a small village: just a perfect size! (around 300,000 inhabitants). During the "Hogueras" it could be 1,000,000 though... and we have all kind of facilities, leisure, services...
Alicante is a very commercial city placed in one of the most touristic - coast areas in Europe because of its beaches and warm temperatures. In the area there are some important touristic places such as Benidorm, Altea, Torrevieja... In summer crowds of tourists specially from Europe come here... (Benidorm!)anyway it's a sunny and nice athmosphere... but Alicante is not only beaches: there are many interesting cultural tips! In this page I will speak only about Alicante... I'm sure that there are lots of VT pages about Benidorm but Alicante city is my town and a really interesting place to visit!

Nightlife is specially great: in summer in San Juan's Beach, in the rest of the year in Alicante's downtown (el "Barrio" and el "Centro") and in the harbour (el "Puerto"). Finally, despite we have two ancient castles, one of the "icons" of the town is the "Santas Barbara's" one, which was an exceotional witness of battles between Christians and Muslims in the Middle ages! If you like culture, don't forget to visit the Archaeological Museum, MARQ! or the CAPA fundation sculpture's collection in the castle of "Santa Barbara". And remember the amazing history of this ancient town (thownsands of years old!), with Roman, Muslims or Iberian archeological "treads".

Photo: This is "El Puerto" (the harbour) a great promenade by day (on both sides) and a nice place for fun, music and "fiesta" by night. What more could you ask for?
