Bolivia is an amazing country where we spent all of our time on the alti-plano...the high plains.

In southwestern Bolivia near the Chilean border

The second day of the 4x4 trip takes us to Lagoons that are at 4000
meters high, are surrounded by volcanos, no vegetation and flamingos inhabit the lagoons. These lagoons are magical places. You see llamas in front of red lagoons (the water is red from minerals) where flamingos feed in front of huge volcanos. You don't think of flamingos when you think of Bolivia but these lagoons are the only ones in the world where the three different flamingos of the world go (South American, Floridian and African).

An "island" in the middle of the salt flats

The four day 4x4 trip through the salt flats (Salar de Uyuni) and southewest Bolivia was absolutely amazing. The first day you start
out on the Salar De Uyuni which is the world's largest salt flats. These flats were at the bottom of the ocean millions of years ago and
when the water receeded you had the Salt left. Locals extract 40 tons
of salt from the Salar each year and they won't run out of salt anytime soon.
