I had only planned to transit through Belize from Guatemala to Mexico, but I had extra time in my trip and desided to check out a couple of places.
From Guatemala boarder I first stopped at the Truck Stop in the Cayo District. The older Michigan couple there are extremely friendly and their place is beautiful (their life work). I swung in my hamock and read books in the afternoon and took morning and afternoon walks along the river.
From there I travelled down to the Cockscomb Basin National Park. It is the world's only jaguar reserve. The rainy season was in full swing and I got very wet. It was uncomfortable, but the experience of the rainforest during the rainy season was worth it. I didn't see in jaguars, but did see their tracks.
I proceeded to skip Belize City entirely and head up to Tulum in Mexico.
Check out my "Belize Photo Journal" section.

Fabulous photo of the vulture. Too bad about the rain but if not for the rain we wouldn't see the beautiful greens. I'm off to Belize soon myself and will keep the "Truck Stop" in mind, thanks!
Great animal shots, especially the iguana. How strange that he had two tails!
