Mata Mata Restcamp is one of three camps in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. It is located on the West side of the park on the boarder of Namibia (no boarder crossing).
Accomodation here includes, camping, huts, as well as spacious well equipped cottages with kitchens.
The hut (really a trailor) we stayed in was nice but power was turned off at 10pm. You need a torch until 5 am if you need to use the bathroom. And there is no heat during these times as well. Really our hut was an icebox. Make sure you have plenty of blankets no matter if you are a camping or staying in a hut or cottage.
The camping facilities are quite nice as expected in South Africa. The have:
braiis
bath and showers
dish washing area
laundry
outsided lighting
The camp is just outside the main fence into the park. I didn't see or here of any nuisance animals like jackals storming the camp grounds.
Again, it gets quite cold here. Bring plenty of blankets if you are camping or have the appropriate sleeping bag rating. It was -6 Centigrade in July.
Unique Qualities: Nice location on the Auob River.
Blind next to camp ground but it's a little to close for animals.
Small store
Petrol available
No access into Namibia (for now)
At the time of Writing day walks were no longer available
