Angkor for me is a very unusual place. This is a mysterious place of gigantic and Indiana Jones-like jungled ruins. The eirie faces at the Bayon and the figs at Prah Khan let alone the enormous structure of Angkor Wat make this place a must see.

As they say the destination is only part of the adventure as the getting there is the half the journey. This was really the case for me. I made it the Thai boarder by a convenient bus and had to hitch on the back of a pick up truck six hours. It was basically an off road trip through former Khemer rouge villages that had guards (basically kids with automatic weapons and no clips) asking for road fares. The bridges were gone and we precariously motored over fragile wooden boards.

About seven backpackers made the grueling trip. We all sat on the side of the truck holding one the backpacks in the middle of the truck. By the time we reached Siem Riep we were covered with grey dust. I had to wash my hair three times to get the gunk out.
