"Take Your Mom to Zim?" Zimbabwe by Waxbag

Zimbabwe has incredible natural beauty and tremendous game parks. It is home to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls. On its land is the only major monumental architecture of sub-saharan africa the Great Zimbabwe, from which the country takes its name.

Unfortunately the government has pursued a destructive path distablizing the country and making the security of its tourist at risk.

Should you go or not isn't a question I can answer as I was there before the madness of the landreform and its ensuing affects. Although somesort of land reform is necessary, the government did not do right by commiting economic suicide to win an election.

Great Zimbabwe and Mom and Me

I back packed Zim with my mom for nearly four weeks. Back then before all of the craziness and violence I had no trouble taking her around. We visited the Falls, many game parks, the Great Zimbabwe, and slept many nights on the ground with hippos and buffalo walking around. One night in Chimanimani we slept in a cave. We some of the most unusual landscapes in the world. She still brags about it every chance she has.

Upside Down Hippo

Mom's favorite African animal is the hippo. This one was our favorite hippo, the "Upside Down Hippo" found in Hwange National Park.
