Wanderlusts Two Year Honeymoon

by Waxbag - last update: Dec 26, 2008

I have been a world traveler for most of my life and I have traveled five out of the last ten years to around 40 countries on five continents. I have done extensive travel writing and photography of my travels and am eager to share my material with others. Our latest adventure took my wife and me back-packing around the world for two years.

Dad and Me in Vietnam

Dad and Me in Vietnam

I had the great pleasure of going to Vietnam with him for a month in 1999. Dad, Heyward Macdonald, was in VietNam in 1966 and 1967 based at Phu Loi, which was the home firebase of 1st DivArty (1st Infantry Division Artillery). He was an officer commissioned in Artillery, but working Ordinance with the Head and Main of the 610th Combat Support Batallion.

"We kept the arty firing and after 6 months as a Platoon Leader, I was assigned in a Major's slot and did a lot of traveling in western 3rd corps. We didn't go looking for trouble, it just came looking for us from time to time. For the first 6 months we got some incoming fire at least every other night. It was an interesting time."

- Rev. Doc. Heyward H. Macdonald

Cara and John Dancing Tango in Buenos Aires

Dancing in Buenos Aires

Lastly, our final passion bordering on obsession is dancing. Tango and salsa dancing are such gratifying hobbies. Including dance with travel is particularly exciting.
