I only ever climbed one mountain in my life (which I suppose is actually more than most people achieve) and that is Schneeberg. Its 2075 metres high and takes up to 5 hours if you do it at a novice's pace, there's no real climbing involved but some muscle building walking uphill. You can imagine the sense of achievement I felt when I reached the top of the path - although I couldn't make it to stand next to the cross on the top as I kept sliding down on all the snow. I like to look at the postcard I have when things are tough and remind myself that some things are possible even if you don't think you can do it ! The last time I visited I took the train up and down which is just as spectacular looking at the scenery and hanging out of the window as the breathtaking landscape unfolds around you - and of course a lot less tiring. Try and make time for this its a great and rewarding daytrip from Vienna. (If you look at my homepage you will see a picture of me halfway up Schneeberg.)

Mmmh, yeah, the Buchteln are really essential and fantastic here. few times with school years ago. I think once a year there´s a runner´s event there- AGAINST the old train UPHILL. I think last year it was a runner who won and the 2nd was the train...
