VIENNA - MY FAVOURITE CITY

WELCOME TO MY VIENNA PAGES!

There's a lot of people who just came for a little while but who ended up staying for years doing all sorts of different jobs, meeting loads of different people. I did just that and spent from 1994-2003 living in this amazing city!

Since I left I really miss Vienna but I keep going back for visits - Vienna has a big piece of my heart!! I was last there in December 2008 and I can't wait to update my Vienna pages with loads more photos and tips !

Vienna is a great place to be if you want to travel in Europe cause its right in the heart of it all and the other cities radiate out like a wheel. (Just like the famous big wheel which is in the Prater Park)

Please note that this page and my travel pages will still continue to be revised as I still have to upload tonnes of pictures and info from my many experiences and my recent holiday.

Thanks to everyone for their comments!!

WHAT WILL YOU FIND ON MY PAGES?

* On the restaurant pages you will find my favourite restaurants as well as general tips for different types of restaurants

* On the nightlife pages you will find my suggestions for absolutely anything you could do in the evenings

* On the off the beaten path pages you will find things which you could see if you are staying in Vienna longer than a few days.
You will find that other people have put these things on their must see lists but I think that you probably won't have time to do everything!! Some of these things have taken me 8 years to find!

* On the cultural pages you will not only find cultural tips but also info about things which take place during the year in Vienna, including festivals, local events and how people celebrate holidays such as Christmas.

WHAT'S ON IN VIENNA??

There is always something going on in Vienna, whether iceskating in front of the magnificant town hall in winter or an open air music festival in the summer! You could go to ball or visit a film festival, watch a marathon or go to a Christmas market.

WHAT TO DO IN VIENNA??

There is not enough space to write my suggestions! I have lived here for years and there are still things to discover!

Visit the first district, go to Schonbrunn and pop to a Heuriger in the evening if you want a quick taste of the city. If you have more time try some of my off the beaten track places and take at least a day trip to Salzburg, you will love it. Get your teeth into a huge wienerschnitzl (if you are a veggie try some of the Heuriger salads with crusty bread or a zucchini souffle) and a big Austrian beer (a lot stronger than in the US or UK) or white wine spritzer and somewhere along the way, drop into a Kaffeehaus for a steaming cup of melange coffee or cafe latte and a huge wedge of sacher torter with whipped cream or apple strudel (with hot vanilla sauce in the winter!)

WHAT ABOUT DAYTRIPS FROM VIENNA??

If you want to get out of the city for the day there are lots of possible daytrips which you will find on my other Austria pages.

Why not go to the top of the nearest mountain, Schneeberg? Or spend a refreshing day at the Myra waterfall at Muggendorf? Go for a glass of wine in quaint Gumpoldskirchen? Or spend time and money in the thermal spa and casino town of Baden? Visit the lakeside stork town of Rust, or take a long trip to the beautiful and historic town of Salzburg? What about nearby Perchtoldsdorf just outside the Viennese suburbs?

Or why not pop over to another country with a day out in Budapest or Bratislava? (To do Prague, its best to stay overnight unless you don't mind travelling back through the Czech Republic in the very early hours of the morning).

Vienna is a great base for all of these, hope you have a good time!!

Hi Mel! I hope my ratings help your Vienna page to get a bit closer to a Top 5 spot... because it definitely deserves it! Greetings from the desert dunes of Dubai / Jess :-)

A+ tips on the ice cream! Although I would argue that Vienna's is even better than anywhere in Italy. You know what you're talking about. Good job.
