Princes Street as seen from the castle
Princes Street is the main Edinburghs shopping street. It is built only on the one side. On the other side of the street is the beggining of the valley of the gardens just under the castle hill.
The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre
Scotland is famous for its whisky...If you want to know about whisky regions, about the malting, the distillation, the maturing process etc, this is the place to visit.
At the end of the tour you will be offered a glass of whisky to taste.

Princes Street Gardens
I was told that these gardens where planted by the residents of Princes Street after they won their battle to preserve the view from their windows. And what a view!! The castle and the old city are just on the other side!
The Scott Monument
You cannot miss this monument. It stands 200ft high on Princes Street and was built as a tribute to novelist Sir Walter Scott.
A circular stairway climbs to the top (about 300 steps) with amazing views of the gardens below.
Address: East Princes Street Gardens
Military Tattoo
The most spectacular performance of music, dance and drama! The performance takes place in the castle.
I was there when it was the celebration of the 50 years of the festival. The fireworks and the music made the whole thing unforgettable.
The Fringe
This is an unofficial festival running the same days with the international one. It is one of the largest arts festivals in the world!! More than 15000 performances take place in every available space, including the streets.
