Pompei is most popular for it's most unpopular

On the way to the Amalfi Coast

Mt Vesuvius in 1998.
We had occasion to stop at this township...............yes, the township not the remains from that devastating volcanic happening.
Mr Vesuvius, Campania, Italy

It was with some awe that I studied its new

Outline as compared to this very old painting to be found in the Castle at Caserta.

I also was wondering about the mudslide that had buried a township (that we had just travelled under), not so long before. I wondered about Vesuvius' involvement in that episode too..........We don't really know what is happening underneath, do we?

Further information on Mt Vesuvius may be obtained at the following link.

Beautiful church at Porta Marina

Citta Marianna in the shadow of

Mount Vesuvius. We all know, Pompeii the site of the excavations but who knows of the relationship between the Citta Mariana and Pompeii? A memorial in my tips shows Pompeii to be a suburb of Citta Mariana?...........Well that is what it looks like to me. So this is where the bus stopped on the way to the Amalfi Coast..............a lovely church and interesting monuments.

Another wonderful site telling of Pompeii history and peoples may be found at the following link.

Pros:"I guess the feeling of having a community support."
Cons:"The danger of volcano eruption and other strange stuff."
In A Nutshell:"The temporary nature of the land."

I wouldn't mind at all if you were to make more Pomei pages.... Do you know how far the buried people were from the crater of the volcano ? Roughly ?

No, we don't know what is happening underneath. I came looking for frescoes, but enjoyed gentle gloomy atmosphere of your story very much.
