  • On one of the patios of the Castel S Angelo is some equipment of war in a pretty dangerous looking catapult. I couldn't budge one of the rocks of the pile stored beside the weapon and a male friend had difficulty. It makes you wonder how strong the people were who operated this weapon. They could do with a sign nearby saying bend your knees.

  • In Rome, and every time that I was there, I needed to be extra cautious in regard to crossing the road. Here, we are so used to looking to the right, then left then right again before crossing that we can think it safe to cross the road then, in Italy. In Rome though it definitely is different, and not only because the first lot of traffic will actually approach you from the left.........they don't always stop for you -- but once on the crossing vehicles on your right will stop..............So going with a crowd is the best advice, and staying in the middle of that crowd probably affords you the best protection. I was rescued three times whilst in Italy all because I thought that I was home.

  • Very, very yummy..........yes, that's right, and you may see them growing all over the place and often right under your nose and you get tempted. Be warned, this fruit bites. Well it has all of these spikey doodads all over it and if that weren't bad enough, to eat the fruit you have to get those doodads off. I have seen them captured by a home made cup on a stick device...............Once caught , they are put in a bucket of water to soak. After some time, you get a fork to skewer and hold it in place and a very sharp knife to cut all of the spines off. When you finally think it is safe to eat...........look again. From my experience there is always one forgotten spine. You will be glad to (a) eat it and (b) that you took the time to get rid of the spines.

Enjoyed your take on Rome and off the cuff commentary. A week next year loks as though it should be stretched to a month if I'm to do and see all the things that interest me. leyle

I liked the colosseum aspects travellogue Carole. And as usual, I like the way you look at buildings, at the city, at history. I never visited Castel Sant'Angelo, may be I will have to do one day; it seems it is one of your favourites on this planet.
