It wasn't until I hiked up Capitaline hill to the museums then further up to get a better view, that I finally realised how huge Rome is. It is all very well looking at individual icons and ruins but high above Rome it takes on a different flavour.

Inside reminded me so much of Planco's Mausoleum (the way that it felt inside) that I made that comment to my companion. He questioned - a mausoleum? I said yes. It wasn't until later that I knew that it had indeed started out as Hadrian's mausoleum. Now, almost four years later I can still conjure up the feeling of mystery, and the grandness of the rooms.

It comes upon you pretty suddenly -- a bit like the Colosseum in that it just hits you as being sooooooooo huge. Then if you are anything like me off you'd go into a sort of daze where you would be imagining what it had been like to be there when..............

A week next year loks as though it should be stretched to a month if I'm to do and see all the things that interest me. leyle | Carmela71 Sat Sep 29, 2007 21:31 UTC It has been nearly 26 years since I have been in rome and hope to get a long weekend break I only visited CAstle S angelo from outside | kokoryko Fri May 25, 2007 19:34 UTC I liked the colosseum aspects travellogue Carole. And as usual, I like the way you look at buildings, at the city, at history. I never visited Castel Sant'Angelo, may be I will have to do one day; it seems it is one of your favourites on this planet. |
