Rome a city of History and Romance.

So Many Songs and so many History Books

Uno Momento.....
What do you think of when someone mentions Rome? When I did a brainstorm list the first word was OLD, and strangely enough the next was STATUES. Funny because by far my greatest attraction has been to the ancient Roman sites and while these date back 2000 years or more now, this country's occupation by human beings pre-dates this I am sure. Although this is not my strong suit either. I just know that Rome has something very special about it. It has an atmosphere that I find hard to describe but it's exciting.

The History of Rome makes for good reading. One google result brought this site.

Trajan's Column

Most amazing column -- Trajan's

Getting up close and personal reveals intricate carvings encircling it all the way to the top.

Following is a link to a wonderful close up shot of a section of the column:-

Another interesting column -- this one

with Egyptian type of carving on it. Police were garding the building behind and sort of warned me off so I only took the one shot. Don't know what all of that was about......is that building behind the Chancellory?

UPDATE UPDATE the name of the building near the Trevi Fountain is -Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio--
A mystery was solved for me to-day thanks to a vter by the name of filipdebont
Thank you filip.

Enjoyed your take on Rome and off the cuff commentary. A week next year loks as though it should be stretched to a month if I'm to do and see all the things that interest me. leyle

I liked the colosseum aspects travellogue Carole. And as usual, I like the way you look at buildings, at the city, at history. I never visited Castel Sant'Angelo, may be I will have to do one day; it seems it is one of your favourites on this planet.
