Coffs Harbour Things to Do

Things To Do: Springtime at the Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • Last week I took a trip around the gardens to check out the spring flowers in bloom....... Now I wish to go back again because we have had 2 full days of rain and I am sure that if it was possible, they would be even more beautiful to-day. The flowers in my garden and saying a big thank you to the rain.

Have you ever noticed how well your plants come on with pure rain water as opposed to the tap?

Things To Do: You must see at least one sunrise from the Jetty
  • Tip Rating:
  • Coffs Harbour is not the most easterly point of Australia's coastline but it still sees the sun rise pretty early none the less. I never cease to be amazed at the whole scene, i.e., of any sunrise from the Jetty, and the changes that occur in a short space of time. I have seen many photographers with their tripods line up before dawn in preparation to take a pic of the sunrise that I am lucky enough to see occasionally.

Things To Do: Spend some time with the pelicans

  • The pelican colony in Coffs Harbour is quite large. The pelican man, Tony, a man that has fed them every morning for a number of years claims upwards of 30 in a quiet time. They remind me of swans because they seem just as majestic on the water, and aloof to the same degree. They are such an unusual shape and despite everything can do perfect three point landings even if their take-off are a little ungainly.

  • The big banana announces a family entertainment area (one of many) in Coffs Harbour. As the name would suggest, bananas have always been a big crop in the area and in recent years compatible farming with avacados has come into being. Not that I know much about farming but it would appear that a suitable climate is important as is hillside planting for the bananas. I don't think that the avacados are so fussy

Things To Do: The dolphin show at Coffs Harbour's Oceanarium
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are a couple of shows each day check site for times. The dolphins do their tricks and entertain the crowd then some seals are encouraged to introduce themselves to the audience ................ they do this by kissing everone that they come up to. ( See native travelogue). Anyway it is a wonderful family show that you shouldn't miss.

  • Public access to the foreshores is pretty good here. I don't know how long the pathway goes but provides a wonderful and paved walk from somewhere near to the Park Beach Bowling Club to the southern end of the Jetty Beach and finishes (at the moment) at the boat ramp just down from the Fishing Club - gazing at the south island (women's business).

Things To Do: Hire a Jet Ski and go for the harbour
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is such a fun thing to watch and I have done this quite a bit (watch that is). Coffs Ocean Jet Ski Hire has been operating in the area since 1988.

I originally thought that they were only for single operators but I notice on their brochure that they boast aDouble seater Sea Doo and also a Family jet ski. The family variety suits one adult and two children.....boy it looks like such fun.

  • If you get the opportunity to dine or just visit the Fishermans Club you will be astounded by the most magnificent views of Coffs Jetty, Women's Island and Boambee Beach. Just as if you were sitting in your lounge room, the walls are glass 270 degrees around, although the last time I was there, there were workmen making some verandah's for smokers comfort.

Address: Southern End of Jetty Foreshores
Directions: Head to the Jetty, cross over the railway line and turn right at the round a bout. You can't miss the Fishermans club because it sits on a slight rise on the right of the road once the Women's Island is in sight.

  • There is quite a wonderful floral display for this time of year too. I have these zygo cactus living with me on my patio...... Others that make a great display also are the point settia in a variety of colours too. So even a trip to the nurseries and gardens are well worth the time spent on a fine day.

I've just enjoyed the updates to your CH page since my previous visit. Looks as if, when I really (as distinct from virtually) visit, I'd better go to the Fishermens' Club for a meal!
