Halle is a city under construction. The facades have been repainted, the buildings have been fixed up, the flowers have been replanted, and the graveyards have been cleaned up and repaired.
One of its claims to fame is that Handel was born here. There are several places of interest for people who are fans.
Many of the buildings are beautiful and pristine, while others look like a light wind could knock them over. One major draw is the Marktkirche. Also, the Marienkirche, which has Martin Luther's death mask.
We had a local tour, thanks to my cousin. And we were able to see many of the city's highlights in a morning.
Halle is also a University town; Martin Luther University is there. It had a definite energy, and it seems to be on the upswing. However, the 20% unemployment is something troubling. Hopefully it will continue to grow and become stronger.
- Pros:Walkable, pretty new facades

Thanks for introducing Halle to me, really enjoyed my travels there thru your eyes ;-)
Glad to see a new Halle page on VT. There are only four altogether, and it's such an interesting city! I also had a fine local tour several years ago, because a colleague of mine who lives there is an opera fan. (But I didn't have a camera then.)
