A fabulous, brief, fun show.
I went to the NY Aquarium for the first time and LOVED it. What a great place. It's run in conjunction with the Conservation Society, and the pools and aquariums look very well tended. Lots of great educational information is available, and just as many adults were trying to get close to the rails and glass to see what was going on.
Don't miss the Walrus exhibit, and make sure to leave time to visit the Sea Lion show (it's a 20 minute commitment). If you sit in the first rows you can get a kiss from the sea lions.
It's a must see, for sure.
The $12 adult fee and the $8 child fee will buy a couple of hours of joy for everyone. Children under two are free. Senior citizens are $8. A family membership includes the Bronx, Central Park and Prospect Park Zoos.
Address: Surf Ave. & W. 8th St.
Directions: Take the D, N, Q, F train to the Stillwell Avenue station in Coney Island, Brooklyn - or to the stop for Aquarium. (except the D and N - they go to Stillwell.

Green-Wood Cemetery is beautiful. If the bbq crowds at Prospect, Sunset, Owl's Head, and Reid parks get too much, and you still want some greenery and strolling grounds, stop by the Cemetery.
You can check out cool grave markers, look at all the names and dates, peek at the stained glass, watch birds, admire the view from the highest point in Brooklyn, or just have a very pleasant walk.
Bring a bottle of water and good walking shoes. The place is huge. You can pick up a handy-dandy map of the cemetery at the main gate on 25th Street or on 8th Avenue and 20th Street. Check out the web site for more information and to see who is buried there.
Address: 500 25th Street (off 5th Avenue)
Directions: Take the R train to 25th Street and walk up to 5th Avenue

Relaxing in the Shakespeare Garden
Make sure to check out the Shakespeare Garden. Lines from different plays and sonnets are cited and corresponding herbs and plants are pointed out. Typical British plants abound, with some additions. A must for Bard Buffs!
See my travelogue for amazing photos of the blue bells and other areas. They smell so sweet!
Directions: Take the 2, 3 to Eastern Parkway. You can also walk from the Grand Army Plaza stop. There is an entrance on Washington Avenue, and another one on Eastern Parkway.

Nothing good for the arteries, but delicious!
Even if you're not going to have a whole meal, at least stop by for cheese fries or some other snack. The original Nathan's is open and always bustling. It's quite an experience.
Address: Right on the corner of Stillwell
Directions: W train to Stillwell Avenue

Speedway at Coney Island
You can buy some time on the raceway at the track. Everyone who went looked very satisfied and the cars seemed to go pretty fast. Only one guy got a dud car, and he got to go again for free.
Address: Off the boardwalk, next to the batting cages.
Directions: W train to Stillwell Avenue

View of the beach and park from the Wonder Wheel
Okay, I'll admit it...I was a little nervous on this ride the first time. The outside cars move back and forth and it looks like you will slide right off - or you'll hit one of the stationary cars. You get some of the most amazing views from this ride....the beach, the people, the zipper, the kiddie rides, the boardwalk...it's all so cool. You don't have to share a car with anyone else, and I've heard some couples have taken that opportunity to become engaged.
Address: In the park section of Coney Island
Directions: W train to Stillwell Avenue

The Gates of Chocolate Heaven
Jacques Torres Chocolate...oh my goodness! A lovely cafe, "home" made chocolate, and a grungy-artsy surrounding. It's a lovely nook in DUMBO...located between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. You can have lovely drinks, lovely snacks, and every sense will be on the verge of overstimulation.
Open Monday through Saturday from 9-7.
Address: 66 Water Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn
Directions: There are excellent walking/driving/training directions on the web site.

The Manhattan skyline is best seen from Brooklyn
One of the most visited areas of Brooklyn is the Heights Promenade. Couples come to gaze at the skyline, lunch-time adventures appear to eat and relax, parents take children to toddle about, dogs take their owners so they can sniff other dogs...you'll see everything here. It's lovely during the day and stunning at night.
Address: Almost all the way west of Brooklyn Heights
Directions: Walk west on Montague or any other near-by east-west streets until you hit the Promenade.
An amazing array of cultures and people!
In the mood to watch people take wedding photos? Are you an admirer of Whitman? Want to get a fabulous view of the Brooklyn Bridge? How about downtown Manhattan? In the mood for delicious ice cream or famous pizza? The Fulton Ferry Landing has all these things. It's a popular stop for tour buses and white limos filled with bridal parties. There are many dogs, a huge variety of people, and some of the best food and treats you could ever hope to try.
Address: At the end of Old Fulton Street
Directions: If you have walked over the bridge, work your way around to Cadman Plaza West to Old Fulton Street. Walk towards the water. By train: get out at A/C High Street or 4/5 Borough Hall or N Court Street.
