  • I know it's not really Off the Beaten Path, but compared to Las Vegas....Anyway, it's really cool. And combined with a drive through the desert, it makes a great day trip from Las Vegas. We didn't go into the museum, and we drove to the Arizona side to avoid paying for parking.

Lots of friendly motorcyclists were on the Arizona side too. Don't miss the scenic stop just before the Dam...it's on the left as you drive towards the Dam. There is a beautiful view and only one other car was there while we stopped. Makes for a nice "let's eat our lunch here" spot.

  • Love that funky art deco stuff...almost as cool as the dam itself.

  • Take the roundabout way to the Valley of Fire. The drive is lovely, and while you pay to go through the area, it's worth the scenery and solitude. Driving the Northern Scenic Route is a treat because you pass few cars and get to see the mountains without power-lines and houses in the way. There are lots of places to stop off and take photos, or just relax. It's an easy drive, and you can't really get lost. Morning of late afternoon is prettiest.

Valley of Fire State Park: The Northern Scenic Drive
  • Tip Rating:
  • We took this route to get to the Valley of Fire and it was well-worth getting lost. (We got lost because of my incompetence, not because it's easy to get lost!) We saw the most incredible rocks, mountains, plants, and very few people/cars. It was great!!

Your photos are amazing, but several of the Valley of Fire ones could be better in a travelogue since there aren't any comments with them.

I enjoyed reading the Las Vegas pages, game me some good ideas for our trip to LV this Summer, especially the drives outside of the city.

I am sorry that you did not share those pool-side photos. Did you discover the tram from Bally's to MGM Grand? Nice pages. Enjoyed.
