"Town that isn't so creepy anymore!" Whittier by spintobecca
Whittier Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 47 photos
This town used to be the Stuff Stephen King Novels were made of! This is mostly a "City Under One Roof" as most of the population lives in an apartment residence called the "Buckner Building" which was built in 1953. It contains 1000 units, it was originally built as army barracks. This town used to only be accessable by rail and sea, but a tunnel has been built so you can drive in now. This has lessened the creepy value on this town a great deal. If you would like to virtual drive the tunnel to Whittier, try this site:

- Pros:Glaciers
- Cons:Where the (#&$@ am I?
- In a nutshell:Bring a toothbrush, just in case.

A Stephen King locale indeed! My mom and sister spent a week there one day. 3 marriage proposals she had and still she complained :) Birthday greetings from Kodiak!
Whittier is such an oddball. So ugly to be an Alaskan town, but for somehow, some creepy way,the tunnel must to be experienced&see those disgusting bunker buildnings.Have you took that air picture? It makes 'even' Whittier 2 look prettier..hey that's poetry.
Becca, you tell it as it is..I had to grin..tanx for sharing
Would like to dive one day, but I'm not sure if it has to be in winter ;)
it looks pretty to me
but.really cold !
The underwater diving photos are great!
It still seems creepy but the diving looks cool.
