Girdwood Alaska

The town of Girdwood is located at the junction of the Alyeska Access Rd and Hightower Rd. This town is one of the many places where tourists and locals alike flee for a weekend getaway. In the winter, this resort town is host to skiing, hiking, sled dog racing and ice skating. In the summer you will find hikers, paragliders, people fishing and otherwise engaged in the natural beauty of the area. I enjoy visiting this area because the treeline looks so different from where I live, an hour away in Eagle River. In Girdwood... the trees are green only in contrast to the white plentiful snow... very winter wonderland! In Eagle River, there is less snow and the birch trees lend a red hue to the color scheme.

It is a shock to see the size of the Alyeska Prince Hotel. The heated towel racks are the best.
