"Four european girls in Calgary" Calgary by ptitetoile

Wednesday 15 Feb. , I was aked by a collegue if I had a passport...

Because a client need a French linguist for working on site in Calgary, Alberta...
I could not believe my hears!!! And I had to be there on the 20th... You can imagine my surprise! And of course...I said yes! ...Such an opportunity happens only once in a life time! Working five weeks long in Canada cannot be refused! I packed my warmest clothes and I left Belgium to discover this huge country! Or at least Calgary!
Three other European girls are involved in this project : an Italian, a Spanish and a German...so together, we were fine!

Little by little, I get to know the city. Calgary is organised very logicaly. The roads from West to East are called Avenues and the ones from the North to the South are called streets. They are divided into the 4 cardinal points by the river horizontally and Central street verticaly.

The main interests of Calgary for me in the WINTER are its location near the Rocky mountains, the great historic buildings, the giant shopping malls with connections between them enabling people to shop and to move from one part of downtown till the other without going outside. Calgary has also a cowboy heritage that is funny to discover! The cowboy bars are so welcoming with their friendly and warm atmosphere! I hope to have the chance to come back in the Summer and see the famous Stampede festival!

As I am living in the hotel, I have the occasion to go to restaurants and try all kinds of food and restaurants...and believe me, Calgary is for me a great gastronomic city!!! I never tasted so much (and so long) high quality dinners in my life! In the tips you will find the restaurants I went to ...and comments about them. But there is already one thing that is sure...It has always been great!

Stephen Avenue

As I am living for a month in Calgary, I tried to explore the city as much as I could by walking through different neighborhoods... and then I found great places with wonderful nature and architecture!

Here are the neighborhoods I visited :

-Mac Kinnon Drive neighborhood

My favorites are Inglewood and Ramsay, the two neighborhoods at the birth of Calgary full with extraordinary wooden houses of different architecture styles (particulary between the 18 and 19 av SE).
