A city that remembers!

by ptitetoile - last update: Jul 6, 2006

"Je me souviens" is what is written on every licence plate of Quebec : and that is a good way to summarize the spirit of Montreal: this city is rich of great old buildings and it is very proud of it!!!! And it is understandable in the new world (in comparison to old Europe with its more than 2000 years old roots). Beeing an European and have lived in Calgary for five weeks, I found back in Montreal what I knew about France : the narrow cobbled streets, the old stone buildings, the little oldfashioned shops...and a little bit of England : the very nice victorian-like houses. But I found also next to it a large new Canadian city with high buildings, large avenues.
The diversity of Montreal what I liked the most : it is a city with a lot of different aspects, different neighborhoods : the old city, the gay neighborhood, the party neighborhood combined with a nice residential neighborhood called Le Plateau, Little Italy and also more latin and portuguese neighborhood....I invite you to discover them in the tips ;-)
