Chur is the hometown of Daniel, my fantastic tango friend I met when I was in Lausanne. He made me discover his wonderful town squeezed between moutains, situated in the Rhine Valley.
This town whose history goes back to settlements 5000 years ago, is the oldest one in Switzeland.
The old part of Chur is small and really nice with a lot of narrow streets, colorful houses and typical square (on the picture : Arcas). Chur has also a lot of churches and they all give a very special charm (particulary the St Martin Church)! There is also a small river which divides the town : the Plessur. I really liked also to walk down from my friend's house on a hill dominating the town to the center... the view is fantastic !
Chur is also a good point of departure for hiking in the summer and for skiing in the winter : Arosa and Lenzerheide are two beautiful ski resorts I tried. It is possible to pay a day card including travel by bus or train and the ski-pass.
Another nice thing in Chur are the people and more specific the tango dancers :-) Maybe is it like that in a small tango community but though, I will never forget their warm welcome :-) I guess the fact that I came from Belgium to dance there played a role... or also the fact that I was a friend of the male tango Star of Chur, isn't it Daniel?
