A tourist region par excellence, Sintra is one of the most delightful places to be found in Portugal.
It has attracted a lot of kings, artists and poets and now tourists!
The nature is the biggest richness of the district. The green is the main color (because of the sufficient amount of humidity and rain) and the variety of trees and plants everywhere, and especially in the parks of the numerous palaces, diffuse a wonderful smell.
A lot of poets fell in love with Sintra :
The poet Afonso Lopes Vieira : "In all the land of Portugal, the whole expanse of Europe, Sintra stands out as one of the loveliest, rarest places that Nature's prodigious hand has created"
The English poet Robert Southey : "the most bless, spot on the whole inhabitable globe".
The English poet Byron : "the most pleasing in Europe"
"a garden of the earthly paradise".
If you go there, you wil understand it! One palace is nicer than the other, and their garden more romantic than the other!

I saw the last 4 palaces and visited the last 2 palaces and their corresponding parks... and did that during two days... unforgettable! |
The old Sintra is quite small and it is worth to walk in the small streets to discover some little treasures like this fountain... |
