Merzouga

by ptitetoile - last update: Feb 12, 2004

Merzouga was the second overnighting place (in a berber tent) of the tour organized by Sahara Expedition...(see Zagora)
Merzouga is an area of very big dunes in the middle of a stone desert. These impressive dunes are called "Golden dunes" .

We went to the campment again with dromadery and the travel was this time very comfortable! The sand absorbed all the big steps of the dromaderies and we enjoyed their smooth moves (good for our back and bottom which were tired of the previous dromadery-travel!).
We arrived at the camp with the sun set...We were happy that it showed up a little bit after the clouds because we were not so lucky... we had rain and wind!
Adi welcomed us in the camp and prepared us a very delicious tajine!!!

We get to know him a bit during the evening altough he was quite shy. It was very interesting. He is berber and working as camp keeper and cook...when there are no work with tourist, he is looking for fossils in the mountains and you can buy it if you want...
A night in the desert cost 30 euros but the guide does not receive a lot of money from the tourist agency.

After the dinner, he sang us berber songs and played music...and that is what I tried also until I fell asleep on the rythm of the jembé!
