Paris is a legendary city that has a particular attractive charm for all the people of the planet... As I went quite often to this city when I was a child, I had another view on the city but it is more recently (three years ago and in 2004) that I discovered it with the eyes of an adult...paying attention to all details that can make this city so special !
First visit in June 2004
I took as guide the "Seine" river and walk along it to rediscover the City. I became aware that most of the great things are situated around and along the Seine... I did everything by foot! From the Austerlitz bridge in the west to the Liberty statue of the Grenelle Bridge in the south-east! The must see activities will discribe my way from one side of the Seine to the other :-) And just before going back to Belgium, the third day of my stay, I made a last visit to the unavoidable Montmartre and its lovely streets and stairways :-)
This visit to Paris was due to the wonderful summer tango festival held in the first weekend of July! A festival organised by Mephisto Tango with an amazing amount of good dancers! I have never seen so much good dancers on the same dancer floor....it was already a pleasure to look at it! I was impressed by the perfect style and large moves of the tangueras...It was very international and I danced with dancers coming from the opposite part of Europe : Portugal and Poland! The shows were also impressive : I could admire the style of three couples that were very original (Fabian Salas & Carolina del Rivero, Mariano Chico Frumboli & Eugénia Parrilla, and Sebastian Arce & Mariana Montes)... they were inspired by modern and neo tango... in the moves but also in the music! They represented to me a new kind of tango full of liberty and flexibility but also a very large precision and perfection!!!!! (see pictures in the travelogue) |
Second visit in November 2004During this second visit, as I had already visited the tourist spots along the Seine, I made another very interesting walk from the 4th district to the 13th district (the place where I stayed) : Starting from the metro station "Les Halles" I walked in the direction of the "Marais" and the Jewish neighborhood, then I crossed the Seine, saw the Lutèce arena and the Mosque, then the famous "Rue Mouffetard", then "Place d'Italie" in direction of The Paris' Chinatown ;-) |

Herkbert Sat Sep 13, 2008 18:40 UTC Sarah.. I enjoyed looking at your Paris page. We will be returning in December and I can't wait. Thanks for sharing. | Jerelis Wed Aug 8, 2007 12:48 UTC Great info on a mysterious city indeed. Been there twice and I will return someday again, just for the mystic! Thanx for sharing. | Nemorino Wed Jul 19, 2006 09:56 UTC I met two young opera singers performing under those arches at Place des Vosges. Never knew Paris was such a tango center. Whatever one's interest (except maybe mountain climbing or deep-sea diving) Paris is probably one of the best places for it. | ExGuyParis Thu Jan 20, 2005 10:59 UTC I love your Tango in Paris pictures! |
