Honduras is the cheapest (and one of the best) places in the world to dive and is prime Whale Shark territory come late February and March. It also boasts the largest untouched swath of jungle in Central America. I highly recommend it for its people, excellent food, diving, jungle, and of course the excellent value it offers for your $$$.
The general vibe in Honduras is very relaxed, there are very few 5-star travelers and, due to lack of infastructure, there probably won't be for quite some time. Honduras doesn't fit the mold for travelers seeking 'creature comforts'.
If you're a trekking/diving fanatic looking for the ultimate in adventure travel, Honduras is THE place to check out!!! I've had the pleasure of visiting twice and have spent a total of 5 weeks there. I'll likely continue to travel to Honduras (on a yearly basis) for the excellent & inexpensive diving, if not for all the other wonders this country has to offer. |
