The Supestition Mountains are home to the Lost Dutchman Mine or so tradition says. No one knows much about the mine other than that a Dutchman, Jacob Waltz, claimed to have found gold there. He bought supplies with this gold, and was somehow able to give would be followers the slip whenever he went to visit it. When he died he took the location of the mine to his grave, so now the mine's location has been lost, if it really ever existed! The whole name is a misnomer really since the Dutchman was never lost, nor Dutch for that matter! He was German. The park has picnicing facilities and a campground. There are plenty of trails for hiking and horseback riding. The park is 320 acres and those trails will take you out even further into the rugged Superstition Wilderness of Tonto National Forest. Open from sunrise to 10pm each day.
