Armenia

by MalenaN - last update: Aug 16, 2006

Sanahin Monastery, Alaverdi
Khor Virap and Mount Ararat
Armenia is a small, beautiful country with a long history. In 301 Armenia, then a kingdom, became the first christian nation in the world.
Around in Armenia there are many old churches and monasterys, a few of them on UNESCOs World Heritage list.
- Hagpat and Sanahin Monasterys
- Geghard Monastery and the upper Azat Valley
- The cathedral and churches in Echmiadzin and the historical site Zvartnots

I met many kind and friendly people during my week in Armenia. But I could not speak to everybody as not many people speak English. After Armenian, Russian is the second language.

I visited Armenia for a week in June 2003 and again for almost two weeks in summer 2006.
