| | I visited Sigulda on a daytrip from Riga. It was in December and the weather was the worst, it was grey, there was some rain and on the ground there was wet snow mud. Sights are quite spread out around Sigulda so I went by bus and on foot (and got very wet feet).
The small town Sigulda is situated 53 km northeast of Riga, by the Gauja River Valley. The landscape is beautiful with rolling hills. There are many activities to do for the visitors. In the area there are many caves and medieval castles and ruins. Between the sights there are often good walking trails.
Sigulda is the Latvian centre for sports and outdoor activities. Besides walking you can in summer do horse riding, cycling, ballooning, bungee jumping and much more. If it is enough snow in winter you can go skiing and there is also bobsleigh run open on Saturdays and Sundays. |

Kuznetsov_Sergey Wed Jan 28, 2009 18:04 UTC Great updates during two weeks! Thank you Malena for refreshing my memories about Sigulda which I visited with a day trip 35 years ago, haha! Yes, love padlocks have also appeared in Moscow recently! | Bwana_Brown Tue Jan 27, 2009 23:44 UTC It seems you had a good tour of the Sigulda area! Too bad the weather was not the best, but the freshly fallen snow, bare trees and lots of old castle ruins made for excellent photos! Very helpful tips too on how to get around. | hunterV Mon Jan 19, 2009 19:47 UTC Hello, Malena! Good that you've managed to pay a visit! Thanks for sharing! | yumyum Mon Jan 19, 2009 17:21 UTC Oh, I would also like to visit this place some day! I have seen those padlocks in Riga :)) |
