| | Budapest is the capital of Hungary and here almost 2 million of Hungary's 10 million inhabitants live. Budapest has been one city since 1873 when the townships of Buda, Obuda and Pest unified. Buda is on the west side of Danube and high above the river, on Castle Hill, is the Old Town and former Royal Palace. On the east bank of Danube is Pest, and the city centre. Pest is flat. Many of the buildings there were built in the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century in architectural styles as Art Nouveau and neoclassical.
I visited Budapest for a few days in February - March, not the best season, but still pleasant. Budapest is a city to walk around in and admire the many great buildings, visit museums, sit at an café or relax at one of the thermal baths. |
