Uppsala Cathedral

Chapel of our Lady Cathedral Review

Favorite thing: In the east part of the Cathedral, in the Chapel of our Lady, the Swedish king Gustav Vasa (king between 1523 - 60) is buried. On the grave monument Gustav Vasa is lying between two of his wifes, Katarina and Margareta. They are all buried in the krypt belove the floor and when Gustav Vasa's third wife died she was also buried here.
On the walls of the chapel paintings are showing the kings life. The roof is painted light blue with stars.

St Erik's Shrine - Uppsala
St Erik's Shrine Cathedral Review

Favorite thing: Erik was a Swedish king killed by the Danish in 1160. He was attending a mass at the church when he got the message that the Danish were comming. He waited until the mass was over and by then the Danish had already arrived. Erik was killed on the place where the cathedral is built and it is said some miracles happened as he had been killed. He became a saint.
The shrine is made of gold-plated silver and contains Eriks skeleton and his crown. The now exsisting shrine is from the 16th century. The previous one was melted down by king Johan III, who later had a new one constructed.
