| | Como is a city in Lobardy in northern Italy. It is situated 45 km north of Milan and near the Swiss border. It is also situated by the beautiful Lago di Como, surrounded by mountains. Como dates back to Roman time when the Romans founded Comum in 196 BC. Today Como has 86 000 inhabitants.
Winters are dry and cold in Como with temperatures of about 4 - 6°C and the summers are hot and wet. The average temperature in summer is 24 - 26°C. When I visited in the end of February it was after an unusually cold winter, but the sun was shining and it was the first spring days. On the highest mountains by the lake snow could still be seen on the top.
Como has a lovely historical centre where it is nice to walk around on the almost car free streets. The historical centre has medieval walls on three sides and here you find the cathedral and other interesting buildings. Around Como there are several grand villas and parks, and lovely small towns by the lake to visit. |
