| Qala'at ar-Rabad in Ajlun |
|
| | Ajlun is a small town 73 km north of Amman and 25 km west of Jerash (so Ajlun and Jerash can both be visited in the same day).Tourists come here mainly to see the castle.
On a hilltop 2,5 km outside the town, on a hilltop, stands the beautiful castle Qala'at ar-Rabad. It was built in 1184 - 1185 by Izz al-Din Usama, general and nephew of Salah al-Din. The castle was built to protect the caravans passing the area and to deter the Crusaders. |

How fortunate that you were able to share with the other people to tour Ajlun. | easyoar Mon May 1, 2006 11:48 UTC How far is the Euphrate River to Cairo? I just wondered how far those pigeons had to fly! | zizkov Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:51 UTC Quite a castle! Pic in Travelogue 3 (vaulted room) looks a bit like Doune (but much warmer) - hope you are having a fantastic trip |
