| | There are no special tourist attractions in La Plata but it is on the way to Tierradentro, and as I was not sure I could go from Bogota to Tierradentro in one day (and arrive before dark), I stayed one night in La Plata.
La Plata was founded in 1651 and it is not a very big town, in the whole municipality there are about 55 000 inhabitants. La Plata is surrounded by green mountains and the town is situated at an elevation of 1050 m, with an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. La Plata is situated in Huila Departamento and is 122 km from Neiva, 147 km from Popayan and 210 km from San Agustin. It said that Simón Bolívar visited the area several times and stayed at haciendas outside the town.
I think it can be interesting to make short stops in those small towns, to walk around looking at people and architecture. There is a nice main plaza (park) with a very big ceibatree and a yellow cathedral at one side of the plaza. |
