"Pamplona" Pamplona by MalenaN

Pamplona Travel Guide: 8 reviews and 42 photos

I found Pamplona to be a pleasant town to make a stopover in. I stayed here to break the journey between Venezuela and San Gil and had more than half a day to explore the town. There are several museums and old churches in Pamplona. The town is set in a green valley at an elevation of 2290 metres. The average temperature is 16°C. The population is about 45 000 inhabitants.

Pamplona was founded already in 1549, which makes it the oldest town in the region. There are some fine colonial buildings, but an earthquake in 1875 destroyed much of the city. Some of the old buildings were repaired or rebuilt, but in some places they were replaced by modern buildings.
In 1810 the independence movement was started here and the town got the nickname Patriotic City.

Lots of helpful tips for people travelling to this area. I like the sound of the photo museum, something that would interest me.

It was a different kind of photo museum than I am used to see, but it was lovely.

Again Malena, you never cease to amaze me. Almost eight hours on a bus, across mountain ranges, is just incredible to me.

Nice town with a lot colonial history. What a plate of beans - looks yummy though. I know how you feel when you sit on the wrong side of the bus (or plane). Great work as usual. Keep it up.

A few interesting and somewhat lesser known attractions here.
