"Pangong Lake (Pangong Tso)" Pangong Range by MalenaN

Pangong Range Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 92 photos

Pangong Lake is a beautiful lake situated at an altitude of 4350 metres. The water is cold and clear and shift in blue and green colours. The lake is surrounded by bare mountains, some with snow on the tops even during the summer months. The water in Pangong Lake is brackish so it makes it the highest situated lake with salt water. Pangong means extensive concavity and it is a 134 kilometre long lake, but it is only 5 kilometres wide at the widest points. More than 60% of the lake is situated in Tibet.

When I was in Leh I heard that Pangong Lake had become a popular place to visit by Indian tourist after the film Three Idiots was filmed there. So before leaving India I had to do the opposite, buy the film after I had visited Pangong Lake. It is only the end of the film that is filmed by Pangong Lake, but as it is such a lovely place I can understand why many people get inspired to go there after seeing the film.

Stunning scenery - I can see why you wanted to go there and why you thought it was worth the long journey. Good altitude sickness warning too.

Stunning photos in your tips and travelogues. That road looks really narrow in places, with a steep drop-off to the right. Nice video of the lake.

Amazing landscape photos and nice video. Good reminder about the altitude issues for who ever plan to visit.
