Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Philly experiences real extremes of weather, so depending on the season you should pack accordingly. In fall and spring, the weather is variable- one day is a day for shorts and a tank top, then the next day can be so cold and wet you need a sweater, jacket and umbrella.

Summers are generally extremely hot and by late July and August, the only tolerable clothing covers as little as possible. Some nights may get chilly, but generally it is stifling hot.

Winters are also variable. It is January as I write this and last week we had bizarre warm weather where people were wearing shorts. Now it is bitterly cold and snowy. Generally by late January it is extremely cold and blustery in the city, without much snow. The tall buildings act as a wind tunnel and the cold is biting. I suggest packing a woolen pea coat because they are warm, fashionable in the city and not too bulky for traveling. If it is very cold out you can compliment with a humongous scarf and gloves and be comfortable.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Do not forget your perscription medicines, although Philadelphia has many 24 hour pharmacies.
